Music for the Weekend: Amor Fati by Washed Out
Been averaging about three hours of sleep a day for this past week, prepping for New York Comic-Con, writing, researching and working on the sales for Lilith. I’m also cutting a new trailer for the film. To say I’m a little overwhelmed at the moment is an understatement.
Yesterday I met up with a friend who worked as a PA on Lilith, and we had a wonderful time catching up and watching parts of the film together on my laptop. I can’t believe it’s been a year-and-a-half since we left Ohio. Such is the journey of a true independent film. I’m working hard to make sure the film gets the release it deserves.
These things take time and require a lot of patience. There’s a lot of moving parts to international sales and the way the global distribution system works is slowly revealing itself to me. I wish I could write as extensively on this process as much as I did about production, but I’m in new territory here, and for me to write about it would be an exercise in speculation and assumptions. I’ll fill you in on the process as it becomes clearer to me, as I don’t want to give errant information on how to go about sales. It’s a complex web of rights and territories, something which I’m learning about every day.
After comic-con I’m going to get back into writing about pre-production, this time on my new project. We’re going back to square one, starting with the script. It’s a tricky proposition, as I’m not sure whether to rename this blog or start a new blog/ URL with the new production, or to just keep it all under ‘Lilithfilm.’ I’m quite fond of this blog, and I know a lot of you are as well. I have some thinking to do.
Indian summer has rolled into Chicago and it’s shaping up to be a glorious weekend. I have a chili cookoff that I participate in annually coming up on Sunday. I won the champion cup two years ago, and I aim to reclaim my title this year. For just a few hours, I need to stop thinking about film and fully focus on chili. Might be a nice departure.
