New York Comic-Con.

So I can’t reveal too many details, but I’m going to be a special guest on a panel at this year’s New York Comic-Con, where we’ll officially be announcing my next project.

This has been almost two years in the making, and I’ve been burning the midnight oil on completing the first draft of the film’s screenplay. Between researching and writing for the screenplay, interviewing foreign sales agents and distributors for Lilith, planning my food documentary (which has hit a bit of a bump in the road and might get delayed), and just dealing with life in general - my fantasy football lineup won’t set itself - I’ve become a bit of a reclusive mess.

Don’t you get hurt on me, Matthew Stafford.

But I’m not going to complain, because life is getting better. Lilith has garnered a lot of interest and has made things interesting. PATANG (The Kite), the film I am an associate producer on, has been traveling the world and has made stops at dozens of film festivals. The film has been received very well, and we’re hoping to land a distributor soon. And now I’ve got Comic-Con, which is something of a dream come true for me.

I am a geek and make no qualms about it - I sing “Soft Kitty” to my cats and engaging conversation for me is pretty much relegated to pop culture, politics, movies and music. I love comic books as much as ever, but I’ve never been to a Comic-Con. Looking at NYCC’s lineup, I might say that I’ve been out-geeked, but I’m thrilled to be amongst my geek brethren. On top of that, I get to be on a panel with two artists to whom I am completely indebted to, Frank Miller and Paul Pope. Without Miller’s Elektra: Assassin and Ronin and Paul’s THB, I wouldn’t be making movies right now. They are some of the fundamental building blocks of my worldview and aesthetic, and now here I am, many years later, speaking by their side. It’ll be a revelatory, watershed moment in my life.

I’ll give you more details as they become available, but until then it’s back to writing!
